Members Present: 21
Location: United Against Poverty located at 150 W. Michigan Street, Orlando, FL 32806
We opened the meeting with a moment of silence followed by the Serenity Prayer. The 12 Traditions and H&I Purpose were both read.
We held our subcommittee on November 21, 2017 at 7:00 pm. There were 21 members present, including 2 new members and the PR Chair! The 2 new members attended orientation as well.
We are currently taking in 11 presentations into 6 different clearance facilities and 12 presentations into 10 different non-clearance facilities with a combined total of 29 panel leaders with commitments at this time.
We currently have 15 open commitments at clearance facilities and 12 open commitments at non-clearance facilities. Please keep in mind that most of these facilities have multiple presentations on our listing as some facilities request more than one weekly meeting from our H&I subcommittee. With that being said, only 4 clearance facilities and 6 non-clearance facilities do not have 6 month panel leader commitments. 2 of these clearance facilities have temporary coverage by active members. We are hopeful that this can be changed in the near future as more and more new members come to our subcommittee and former members return.
2 members are attending the Orange County Volunteer Orientation on December 16th.
We are placing a literature order in the amount of $297.14 to replenish our stock.
The fully revised proposed H&I guidelines were presented to the body at the last subcommittee. Members have agreed to review such and discuss any further items at the next subcommittee meeting.
Working with Public Relations was an exciting topic of discussion and we are hopeful to team up with this subcommittee in order to better serve our community and fulfill our primary purpose. The Public Relations Handbook will be disbursed electronically to all H&I members in order to gain more info and to see if this resource could be used in the H&I subcommittee in any capacity.
Fortunately, all of our admin team and panel coordinator positions are filled for this fiscal year!
Concerns or Needs
We need more NA members with clearance to be support to our existing panel leaders at Osceola, Orange and Seminole county jails and other correctional facilities so that there are more speaker options and panel opportunities for these facilities. Please spread the word that just because someone has a record, this does not guarantee denial for approval by the County Volunteer Coordinators.
Our next meeting will be held on the third Tuesday, December 19th, at 7:00 p.m. with orientation being held promptly beforehand at 6:30 p.m. at United Against Poverty located at 150 W. Michigan Street, Orlando, FL 32806. I will be unable to attend as I will be on a cruise and Joe P. will be facilitating!
In Loving Service,
Nikki R., Chair
